Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, Dubai's old heritage quarter, costs nothing to enter: there is no ticketing or admission fee for its 31,000 sqm of sandstone lanes and wind-tower houses, though the museums and galleries inside charge their own. For a guided version of the same streets, we sell an Old Dubai walking tour with a local guide.
A short walk away, Dubai Creek splits Deira from Bur Dubai. Crossing it by abra costs AED 1 one-way, or AED 2 for the air-conditioned option, with a private hire at AED 120 an hour; the stations sit near the Gold Souk and the Spice Souk. The Gold Souk's stalls sell government-regulated gold, gemstones and pearls in old Deira — free to browse, whatever you buy.
For a view that puts old and new Dubai side by side, the Dubai Frame in Zabeel Park frames the historic district to the north and the modern skyline to the south from its Sky Deck, a short taxi from Al Fahidi.
