The Dubai Mall: what's inside and what's worth booking

4 min read

The Dubai Mall's own entertainment page lists 14 attractions under one roof, from an aquarium and an ice rink to KidZania and a cinema, with the Dubai Fountain on the lake outside. Most are worth walking past rather than paying for. This guide covers where the big ones are, what they cost on their own sites, and the few worth booking ahead.

What's inside

The mall's entertainment page lists 14 attractions: Trampo Extreme, the Dubai Fountain, ARTE Museum Dubai, Boo Boo Laand, KidZania, At the Top (Burj Khalifa), Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, Dubai Ice Rink, Reel Cinemas, Hysteria, PlayDXB, Soft Play, House of Hype and Sky Views Observatory.

Only the aquarium, the ice rink and the fountain are on our tickets here; the rest are not products we sell.

Where things are

The aquarium is on the Second Floor, by parking P2 (Grand Parking). The ice rink is on the Ground Floor, by parking P3 (Cinema Parking). The Dubai Fountain is at the Lower Ground Floor, by parking P1 (Cinema Parking). The mall's pages link an interactive map of every store.

The aquarium

Silver is AED 199 and includes the Aquarium Tunnel, the Underwater Zoo and Penguin Cove. Gold, AED 269, adds a glass boat tour, fish feeding and discounts on animal encounters; Platinum, AED 399, adds skip-the-line access and a complimentary animal encounter. The aquarium's own page gives its hours as Monday to Friday 11:00 to 21:00 and Saturday and Sunday 10:00 to 21:00, with last entry at 20:15; the mall's page for it says 10:00 to 22:00 every day, so check the day you go.

The aquarium's own site also sells it with At the Top, Burj Khalifa. At the booking step, where the fare categories are named, an adult (8+ years) pays AED 319, or AED 349 in the slots starting 16:30 to 19:00, and a child aged 3 to 8 pays AED 279; the AED 279 on the tickets page is that child fare, not the adult one. Our combo ticket is on the card above.

The ice rink

From 01 November to 03 January 2027, day sessions cost AED 130 and evening sessions AED 150, each 90 minutes. Helmets are AED 15 and gloves AED 10. Children over 100 cm and under 120 cm must be accompanied by an adult. The rink's own schedule runs from 10:00 to 23:45 daily, while the mall's page lists closing at 22:00 Sunday to Thursday, so check the day you go.

The Dubai Fountain

Afternoon shows are at 13:00 and 13:30 from Saturday to Thursday, and 14:00 and 14:30 on Friday. Evening shows run daily, every 30 minutes from 18:00 to 23:00.

Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo Tickets

The Dubai Aquarium is the ten-million-litre tank you can see for free from the floor of The Dubai Mall - and this ticket takes you inside it. The 48-metre walkthrough tunnel runs along the base of the tank, so rays pass overhead and sand tiger sharks come within a metre of the glass; there are more than 140 species in there, including around 300 sharks and rays. Upstairs, the Underwater Zoo is a separate set of habitats rather than more of the same water: penguins, otters, piranhas, a UAE night-creatures section, and King Croc, a five-metre saltwater crocodile weighing around 750 kilograms. Allow about an hour for both, longer with children, who tend to stop at every tank. It is entirely indoors and air-conditioned, and because it sits inside the mall it is easy to combine with the Burj Khalifa or the fountain in a single Downtown afternoon. Feeding and diver-presentation times are posted at the entrance and worth timing your visit around.

Dubai Mall Ice Rink Entrance Ticket

Dubai Ice Rink sits on the ground floor of The Dubai Mall, an Olympic-sized sheet of ice in the middle of one of the busiest shopping centres in the world. It is open to all abilities: the general session is a straightforward public skate, and skate hire is included, so you can arrive with nothing and be on the ice in a few minutes. Beginners can hold the barrier or hire a support aid, and instructors are on hand for anyone who wants a lesson rather than a lap. The rink runs themed sessions through the week - disco skating under lights, synchronised skating displays, and ice hockey when the local teams are playing - and it is a popular choice for birthdays and group outings. Sessions are timed, so check your slot before you arrive. Wear or bring thick socks, which make hired boots far more comfortable, and gloves are strongly recommended: the ice is cold and, on a first visit, you will probably meet it. The rink is fully enclosed and air-conditioned.

Dubai Fountain Lake Ride Ticket

The Dubai Fountain is the world's largest choreographed fountain system, set on the 30-acre Burj Lake at the foot of the Burj Khalifa: 6,600 lights, 25 colour projectors, and jets that throw water high above the water line, shooting to classical, Arabic and contemporary tracks. Most people watch it from the promenade. This ticket puts you on the lake instead, aboard a traditional wooden abra that carries you out onto the water while the show runs around you - close enough to feel the spray, with the Burj Khalifa directly overhead and the fountain arcing above the boat rather than in front of it. The ride lasts around fifteen minutes and is timed to a performance, so you are on the water for a full show rather than catching the end of one. Shows run through the evening. It is the best view of the fountain available at any price, and it works well as something to add to a Downtown evening rather than as a trip in its own right. You will catch some spray; that is part of it.

Burj Khalifa and Dubai Aquarium Combo Admission Ticket

Downtown Dubai's two headline attractions on one ticket, and they sit a few minutes' walk apart, which is what makes the pairing work. At the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, a high-speed lift reaches the At The Top observation decks on levels 124 and 125 in about a minute, opening onto an outdoor terrace with telescopes and an uninterrupted view over Downtown, the coast and the desert beyond. On the ground floor of Dubai Mall, the Dubai Aquarium holds ten million litres of water and more than 140 species, including around 300 sharks and rays and one of the largest sand tiger shark collections anywhere; the ticket covers the 48-metre walkthrough tunnel and the Underwater Zoo above it, home to penguins, otters and King Croc. Allow around an hour for each. Both are indoors and air-conditioned, and evening slots at the tower are worth booking ahead - they sell out first.
