The structure is modeled after the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence and was built between 1841 and 1844 by Friedrich von Gärtner . The Feldherrnhalle is famous for being the site of the Beer Hall Putsch in 1923, which was a failed coup attempt by the Nazi party to take over the Bavarian State . During the Nazi era, it served as a monument commemorating the deaths of the 15 Nazis and one bystander killed during the revolt .
