About this experience
The Dubai Butterfly Garden is the largest covered butterfly garden in the world, and it holds around 15,000 living butterflies across ten climate-controlled domes. They fly free around you rather than sitting behind glass, so the experience is one of standing still and waiting to see what lands - on a sleeve, a shoulder, occasionally a hand. Nine of the domes are given over to the butterflies themselves; the tenth is an education space that follows the full lifecycle from egg through caterpillar and chrysalis to adult, with live specimens at each stage, which makes it genuinely useful for children rather than merely pretty. There is also a butterfly museum and an art section on site. Allow around ninety minutes. Wear bright colours if you want butterflies to settle on you, move slowly, and avoid strong perfume. The domes are air-conditioned and fully covered, so the garden stays open and comfortable through the summer, unlike much of what is nearby.

Enter the climate-controlled domes next to Miracle Garden, where thousands of butterflies across dozens of species fly free around you. Walk slowly and they will settle on the planting and sometimes on you. A small museum area covers the life cycle from egg to chrysalis. It is fully indoors and cool, which makes it a good pairing with the garden next door. Allow about ninety minutes.

- The butterflies fly free, so the visit works best if you move slowly and stand still - sudden movement scatters them. Wear bright colours if you want them to land on you, and avoid strong perfume or aftershave, which repels them. Do not touch or pick up the butterflies; their wings are damaged very easily. Allow around 90 minutes for the ten domes and the education area. The domes are covered and air-conditioned, so the garden stays comfortable through the summer, but the humidity inside is higher than outside. Paths are flat and paved, and pushchairs and wheelchairs are fine throughout. It sits alongside Miracle Garden in Al Barsha South and the two are easily combined - though note Miracle Garden is seasonal while the Butterfly Garden is open year-round. Photography is welcome; flash is not.
