About this experience
Taste Armenia over four days. Your driver meets you at Yerevan's Zvartnots airport, and your own car and English-speaking guide take you from the stalls of Yerevan's food market to the cellars of Ararat brandy, a family kitchen in Garni and the vineyards of Areni, where people have made wine for six thousand years. The sights come too: the Temple of Garni, Geghard, Khor Virap and Noravank. You stay all three nights in the same 4-star hotel in central Yerevan.

Your four days
Day 1, a Yerevan food walk: arrive, check in, then an afternoon walk through the Gum Market and the centre, with tastings of Armenian produce, pastries and coffee.
Day 2, brandy and a village lunch: a tour and tasting at the Yerevan Brandy Company, the Temple of Garni, lavash and a home-cooked lunch with a local family, and Geghard Monastery.
Day 3, Areni wine country: Khor Virap in front of Mount Ararat, the Areni-1 cave, lunch and a tasting at a family winery, and Noravank Monastery.
Day 4, departure: a free morning, then your private transfer to the airport.
Private from start to finish
It is only ever you and your own group, with no strangers and no shared coach. Your guide sets the pace around you, stops wherever you want a photo, and can suggest good places for lunch along the way.

Arrival and a Yerevan food walk
Arrival: your driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Zvartnots International Airport with a sign bearing your name, and drives you to your 4-star hotel in central Yerevan, about 20 minutes away. Gum Market: in the afternoon, your guide takes you through Yerevan's biggest covered food market, tasting dried apricots, sujukh (walnuts set in thickened grape juice), string cheese and fresh herbs. Pastries and coffee: continue on foot through the centre, with stops for gata, the sweet Armenian pastry, and a cup of thick Armenian coffee. The Cascade: finish at the Cascade, a giant limestone stairway lined with modern sculpture, for the view across the city to Mount Ararat. Tastings on the walk are included; the evening is free. Overnight in Yerevan.

Ararat brandy, Garni and a village lunch
Yerevan Brandy Company: start with a guided tour of the cellars where Ararat brandy has been made since 1887, followed by a tasting. Temple of Garni: drive east into the hills to the Temple of Garni, built in the first century and the only standing Greco-Roman colonnaded temple in Armenia, above the gorge of the Azat River. Village lunch in Garni: bake lavash with a local family in their tonir oven, then sit down to a home-cooked lunch of khorovats (Armenian barbecue), salads, cheese and herbs. Geghard Monastery: continue up the valley to Geghard, a UNESCO World Heritage Site whose chapels are carved out of the mountain itself. Back in Yerevan in the late afternoon. Overnight in Yerevan.

Areni wine country and Noravank
Khor Virap: drive south through the Ararat Valley to Khor Virap Monastery, where Saint Gregory the Illuminator was held in a pit for years before he converted Armenia's king to Christianity. On a clear day Mount Ararat fills the sky behind it. Areni-1 cave: visit the cave where archaeologists found the world's oldest known winery, around 6,000 years old, and the oldest known leather shoe. Winery lunch and tasting: at a family winery in Areni, taste wines made from Areni Noir, Armenia's native red grape, with lunch. Noravank Monastery: end the day at 13th-century Noravank, known for its two-storey church and the carvings of the master sculptor Momik, at the head of a narrow gorge of red cliffs. Back in Yerevan in the evening. Overnight in Yerevan.
