Setenil

At some point in the distant past, the people of Setenil decided not to build houses next to the rock. They built them underneath it instead.

The result is one of the most surreal villages in Andalucía — streets where the cliff face serves as ceiling, where centuries-old whitewashed houses are tucked directly into the rock overhangs, and where you can sit outside a cave-bar drinking local wine while a two-tonne boulder hovers a metre above your head.

It sounds strange. It looks extraordinary. And it's only two hours from the Costa del Sol.
