Join this full-day day trip to Montserrat and visit a cava winery with a private driver from Barcelona if you want to experience two of Catalonia's most deeply rooted traditions: the pilgrimage to the Montserrat monastery and the celebration of life with its excellent cavas.

Nestled to the northwest of Barcelona, Montserrat, known as the "serrated mountain," boasts distinctive rock formations shaped over millennia. Today, it is home to a monastery, serving as a significant pilgrimage site for the Catalan community. Montserrat comprises the Sanctuary of the Virgin Mary of Montserrat and the Benedictine monastery, which, for almost 1,000 years, has been at the service of pilgrims from all over the world, who come to worship the Black Madonna, a Romanesque sculpture dating from the late 12th century featuring delicately carved features. With your ticket, you will also have access to the audiovisual center and the extensive art museum within the complex.The Montserrat Art Museum, presents an extraordinary collection, including masterpieces by renowned artists such as El Greco, Caravaggio, and Picasso.

The production of cava in Catalonia has a rich and deep-rooted history, dating back to the 19th century when sparkling wines began to be produced in the region. The Penedès region became the epicenter of cava production, and in 1872, the first official cava cellar was founded. Today, Catalonia is a world leader in cava production, with strict quality regulations ensuring the excellence of its sparkling wines.

Our private driver will provide you with directions on how to navigate Montserrat, what to see, and where to eat. Afterward, he will take you to one of Catalonia's most renowned wineries, where the expert staff will give you a guided tour, concluding with a delightful tasting.

Upon finishing, our driver will take you back to your hotel in Barcelona.

Summary of our itinerary
Please see a summary of the areas we covered during this half day trip. Please understand that this is very flexible and the driver may adapt the itinerary based on your needs or preferences. You will start with a pick up at your hotel in Barcelona, 1h drive to Montserrat (Barcelona is 38 miles away from Montserrat) , 3 hours of self-guided tour through the spaces that make up the complex. 45 min drive to Cava Cellar. 70 min guided tour and cava tasting. Return to Barcelona and be dropped off at your hotel.

The Museum of Montserrat
The Museum of Montserrat (MDM) is home to one of the country's most important art collections. Containing works by Caravaggio, El Greco, Rusiñol, Casas, Picasso, Dali, Monet and others, it also has a valuable collection of the Archaeology of the Ancient World with archaeological remains from the Near East (ancient Persia, Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Holy Land...).

Cava Cellar and tasting
During this guided group tour, accompanied by the expert guide from the winery, visitors will be able to see the vineyards, production facilities, and underground caves where cava is stored. The tour includes tastings where visitors can sample a variety of cavas and learn about their characteristics. Additionally, gift shops offer the opportunity to take home bottles of cava and other related products. It's a comprehensive experience that immerses visitors in the winemaking tradition of the region.

Kids under 18 years old will not participate in the cava tasting. They will be offered a soft drink instead.
