Go over the sagas and their influence on modern literature and pop culture, from Tolkien to Game of Thrones or the Marvel universe. Learn about the work of Eyþór who has been restoring these treasures and saving many books who would not have stood the test of time otherwise

  3. 3

The Irish Monks and Celtic Influence

Begin the day at the ancient Caves of Hella, believed to be among Iceland’s earliest inhabited sites, where you’ll delve into the world of the Pápar—Irish monks who were the island’s first known settlers. Inside these mystical caves, learn about the early Celtic presence in Iceland, including the unique practices, artifacts, and religious life of these reclusive monks. Gain a new perspective on Iceland’s cultural roots, as our Viking Age Scholar sheds light on the intriguing blend of Celtic and Norse traditions that shaped early Iceland.

  4. 4

    Hjaparfoss Waterfall

Hjálparfoss Waterfall: A stunning twin cascade in South Iceland, steeped in Viking lore, where Norse settlers are said to have watered their horses and shared stories of exploration and survival. Perfect photoshoot location!

  5. 5

    Traditional Viking Farmstead and Church

In the afternoon, visit the Commonwealth Farm in Þjórsárdalur, a reconstructed Viking-era farmstead complete with turf buildings and a traditional Viking church. At this meticulously crafted site, experience the daily life of Iceland’s Viking settlers, from agriculture and craftsmanship to religious practices and community gatherings. The theme of Power is central here, as our Viking Age Scholar discusses the influence of chieftains, the role of Viking churches, and the importance of community councils in Viking society.

  6. 6

    Viking Dinner at Viking Restaurant

To conclude our journey, we gather at Ingólfsskáli Restaurant (or similar restaurant), named after Ingólfur Arnarson, the first Viking settler of Iceland. Here, you'll savor traditional Icelandic cuisine infused with Viking flavors. Maybe even raise a horn of mead to say, “skál” in a toast to the Viking spirit and in celebration of Viking journey you just completed. If time and weather allows, you can try your hand at axe throwing or archery!
