About this experience
Oman's most thrilling cliff adventure, now on shared group dates.
This shared departure lets solo travelers, couples and small groups experience the Jebel Shams via ferrata at a per-person price. You'll join other adventurers on fixed dates, led by our certified guide.
We meet at 9:00 AM at Cliff Café in Al Khitaym village, at the start of the famous Balcony Walk. Here you'll be fitted with your full via ferrata kit (harness, helmet and lanyards) and receive a safety briefing before setting off.
From there, we hike along the canyon wall to the start of the via ferrata route. You'll cross the cliffs on steel cables, ladders and rungs, clipped in at all times, with dramatic views straight down into Wadi Ghul, the Grand Canyon of Oman.
After the climb, we hike back to Al Khitaym, where the tour ends. The full experience takes around 5–6 hours.
Lunch is not included, so bring snacks and plenty of water. You can also eat at Cliff Café before or after the tour.

Meet in Al Khitaym village, safety briefing and gear up
Meet your guide and the group in Al Khitaym, a small village on the rim of Oman's Grand Canyon at almost 2,000 m. Your guide fits you with your via ferrata kit: harness, helmet and two lanyards that keep you clipped to the steel cable at all times. You'll practice clipping in and out and learn how to move safely on the cliff. No climbing experience is needed.

Balcony Walk
We set off on the Balcony Walk, Oman's most famous trail, following an old donkey path carved into the canyon wall. The path is narrow and rocky but mostly level, with sheer drops on one side and huge views over Wadi Ghul. Along the way we pass the abandoned stone village of As Sab before reaching the start of the via ferrata.

The via ferrata
The highlight of the day. Clipped in to the cable, you'll cross the cliff face using steel rungs, ladders and narrow ledges, with the canyon floor far below. Your guide stays with the group the whole way, helping at the tricky sections and stopping for photos at the most dramatic points.

End of the via ferrata and transfer back
The tour finishes at the end point of the via ferrata. Take a moment to look back at the cliffs you've just crossed. From there, we drive you back to your car in Al Khitaym, or continue with you to your pickup point if you joined our transport.

Know before you go
- Shared departures run on fixed dates only.
- Minimum height: 150 cm, to fit the safety equipment and reach the cables. There is no age limit.
- You should be comfortable with heights and able to hike for several hours on rocky terrain.
- Not suitable for people with heart conditions, vertigo, or during pregnancy.
- Meeting time may change. If it does, we'll let you know in advance.
- The tour may be rescheduled in bad weather for your safety.
