Itinerary

  1. 1

    Meet us in Florence

Begin your day with a comfortable pickup in Florence by private minivan. Sit back and relax as your local driver takes you through the Tuscan and Ligurian landscapes, sharing plenty of tips, suggestions, and recommendations along the way. From what to eat to the best photo spots and practical advice on getting around, arrive fully prepared to make the most of your time in the Cinque Terre.

  2. 2

    La Spezia

Reach the coast early, when the villages are still quiet and the air is fresh. With your Cinque Terre Card, have access to the local trains that connect the villages, allowing you to explore at your own pace.

  3. 3

    Riomaggiore

Visit one village or all five—it’s completely up to you. Whether you want to hike, swim, enjoy a long seafood lunch, or simply stroll with a gelato, have the freedom to shape your own day, supported remotely if needed. Riomaggiore is the southernmost and perhaps most photogenic of the five Cinque Terre villages. Tucked between rugged cliffs and the turquoise Ligurian Sea, its pastel houses seem to tumble down toward the tiny harbor, creating one of Italy’s most iconic coastal views. Wander through the narrow caruggi (alleys), enjoy a glass of local Sciacchetrà wine, and soak up the laid-back charm that defines this seaside gem. Dating back to the early 13th century, Riomaggiore was built vertically into the cliffs to protect its residents from pirate raids. It’s also famous for the Via dell’Amore (“Path of Love”), a romantic cliffside trail connecting Riomaggiore to Manarola. The surrounding terraced vineyards are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and produce some of the most distinctive wines in Italy.

  4. 4

    Manarola

Perched dramatically on a rocky promontory, Manarola is one of the most colorful and picturesque of the Cinque Terre villages. Its pastel houses cascade down toward the small harbor, where fishing boats rest between turquoise waves. Manarola is believed to be the oldest of the five villages, dating back to the 12th century, and is known for its production of Sciacchetrà, the region’s prized sweet wine. The village’s scenic viewpoints are among the most photographed spots in Italy, especially at sunset when the colors of the sky blend perfectly with the vibrant facades.

  5. 5

    Corniglia

Unlike its seaside neighbors, Corniglia sits high on a cliff surrounded by terraced vineyards, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Ligurian coast. It’s the only Cinque Terre village not directly on the sea and can be reached by climbing the Lardarina, a staircase of nearly 400 steps from the train station below. This peaceful village has a more local, relaxed feel—perfect for savoring a glass of white wine and a plate of pesto pasta away from the crowds. Legend has it that Corniglia was named after a Roman farmer, Cornelius, who first cultivated grapes here.

  6. 6

    Vernazza

Often considered the jewel of the Cinque Terre, Vernazza is famed for its natural harbor, medieval tower, and pastel houses that hug the cliffs. Once a prosperous fishing village and maritime hub, Vernazza still retains a noble charm. Stroll through its lively main street filled with cafés and gelaterias, or climb up to Doria Castle for sweeping views of the coast. Fun fact: Vernazza is the only Cinque Terre village with a natural port, which helped protect its fishing traditions for centuries.

  7. 7

    Monterosso al Mare

The largest and most resort-like of the Cinque Terre villages, Monterosso al Mare is known for its long sandy beaches, lively promenade, and crystal-clear waters. Divided into the old town and the newer Fegina area, Monterosso offers the best swimming opportunities in the region. Explore its medieval streets, visit the Church of San Giovanni Battista, or hike up to the Statue of the Giant, a massive sculpture overlooking the sea. Monterosso is also famous for its anchovies, so highly prized they have their own local festival each September.

  8. 8

    Leaning Tower of Pisa

In the afternoon, head to Pisa, where you’ll enjoy a one-hour stop to take in the Leaning Tower and Piazza dei Miracoli. Arriving in the late afternoon means fewer crowds and a more relaxed atmosphere. After your visit to Pisa, return comfortably to Florence by private minivan.
