About this experience
Travel back to the dark days of World War II on a 2-hour walking tour of the life of Anne Frank in Amsterdam, and learn what life was like following the occupation of the Netherlands by the Germans in 1940-1945 and how Anne Frank became an icon of the brutality of suppression. Hear the story about her diary and how it came to be published by her father Otto Frank.
After the Anne Frank walking tour, you will be picked up and driven to Camp Vught National Memorial on a scenic drive. A 6-hour tour including travel time and breaks. Explore the remnants of the Nazi concentration camp Vught, or Konzentrationslager Herzogenbusch, during World War II, including the rebuilt barracks, crematorium, children’s memorial, and watchtowers.
When the camp opened in 1943, it housed 31,000 political and Jewish detainees. The significance of this period in our recent history will be emphasized during this visit. The entrance ticket includes an audio tour.
Barracks 1B is the last remaining authentic barrack of former Camp Vught. Four time periods are covered in the exhibition “If Walls Could Talk”: the concentration camp (1943–1944) and the site’s use after the camp was evacuated in September 1944.
This full-day tour starts at this meeting point: Nieuwe Amstelstraat 8, 1011 PM, Amsterdam, where you will meet your tour guide.

Private Guided Anne Frank Walking Tour of Amsterdam
Travel back to the dark days of World War II on a 2-hour walking tour of Amsterdam, and learn what life was like following the occupation of the Netherlands by the Germans in 1940-1945 and how Anne Frank became an icon of the brutality of suppression. Hear the story about her diary and how it came to be published by her father Otto Frank. Meet your guide close to Waterloo Square. Stroll past monuments and buildings still marked by traces of war. Your guide will bring the history to life, giving you a sense of how the city’s citizens behaved during the occupation, and how they moved around in times of horror. Learn why the Dutch tried to co-exist with the occupying army, and how the Dutch behaved towards the Jews of Amsterdam like Anne Frank. Hear about several important events, such as the February Strike and Winter of Hunger. Visit the Jewish neighborhood, with its Portuguese synagoge and museum, the Hollandsche schouwburg, and the head office of the Jewish counsel. Discover locations the Dutch resistance offered as secret hiding places to families like the Franks. The tour ends at Anne Frank's House, admission is not included. Ideal for fans of European history, the tour also gives an insight into how the Jewish community lived, survived and still thrive in Amsterdam. This Anne Frank Walking Tour does NOT include a (skip the line) admission to Anne Frank's House. The tour starts close to Waterloo Square and ends next to Anne Frank House/Museum, again, we do NOT enter the house.

Camp Vught National Memorial
Camp Vught, or Konzentrationslager Herzogenbusch, was the only SS concentration camp outside Nazi Germany during the Second World War. Many historical events are given a personal perspective by our permanent exhibition. Individual accounts of persons with over 36 different nationalities are used to tell these experiences. Their tales endure. You confront the past when you walk into the room with a view of the camp grounds after the opening movie. The seven “islands” that make up the permanent exhibition collectively cover 18 months of Camp Vught in both chronological and thematic order. The emphasis on the roles people assumed—whether willingly or under duress—as victims, offenders, bystanders, or assistants is one distinctive feature. Barracks 1B is the last remaining authentic barrack of former Camp Vught. Four time periods are covered in the exhibition “If Walls Could Talk”: the concentration camp (1943–1944) and the site’s use after the camp was evacuated in September 1944. 'If Walls Could Talk' The solemnity of this historical site leaves few visitors unmoved: "It's valuable to preserve this dreadful piece of history for young and old alike. It really gives visitors the opportunity to reflect". The museum offers an audio tour in Dutch, English, German and French, while group tours can be booked in a variety of languages. The site retains the original canal, barbed wire fencing and crematorium. The exhibition 'If walls could speak' is available in Dutch and English in the last remaining camp barrack in the Netherlands, Barack 1B, a little farther along Lunettenlaan.
