The monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin are closely connected and are a 40-minute walk from each other. Legend has it that both monasteries were built by father-son Masons, Sanahin was built earlier by his father. The name says it all: Sanahin literally means "it's older than the others."

Haghpat Monastery, founded by Queen Khosrovanush (wife of King Ashot III of Armenia) in 976. It consists of one narthex, two corridors-tombs, a refectory, a scriptorium, a Hamazasp chapel, a bell tower, several chapels. Tombs and crosses (khachkars).

    Noah's Land offers a tour of the Sanahin and Akhtala monasteries in the Lori district of Armenia, which date back to the 10th century. Sanahin was the administrative center and family tomb of the Kurikian Bagratids (10th and 11th centuries), as well as the episcopal residence of the diocese (until the 11th century).
